maharishi has debuted its 2016 fall/winter collection at LCM, a range dubbed “Post-Geographic Devotional Uniform & Habits: Part II.” As an extension of Part I, which drew inspiration from the garments of various religious sects around the world, the new offering continues along the same vein by continuing an exploration of subcultures such as military platoons, gangs, crews and tribes. maharishi has always been informed by spiritual devotion in its previous collections, consistently representing a range of dualities such as East meets West, and nature meets technology. Paying especial attention to the devotional and ritualistic conventions of brotherhoods this time around, the label takes aesthetic cues from uniforms, moral codes and sets of beliefs amongst members.

To complement this season’s motif, the designs bring insignia and branding front and center. Incorporated into seam structures are rocker banners and badges, purposely left blank in order to evoke a sense of ambiguity for the wearer. For this series, the brand also introduces a new core color titled ‘Lama,’ a hue inspired by the habits of Tibetan Buddhist monks. Constructed from Japanese technical fabrics and infused with the clean cuts of Japanese tailoring, maharishi’s latest range is a cohesive selection of garb that coincides with the label’s pacifist approach to military design.
